“The Second Vatican Council is a crumbling taboo”

These were the words of Monsignor Fellay, head of the Lefebvrians, in his comments to the proposals the Holy See made to the traditionalists in its doctrinal preamble.

In the doctrinal preamble which the Vatican presented to the Lefebvrians, “the taboo of the Second Vatican Council is crumbling.”

This comment was one of the central points made in a speech by the head of the Lefebvrians, Monsignor Bernard Fellay, in response to the document sent by the Holy See to the Lefebvrians for approval, so that they may re-enter the Roman Catholic Church.

Fellay added that “Rome’s adoption of an open stance towards the Lefebrians, is a terrible blow to those who would like to make the Second Vatican Council the starting point for the creation of a new Church.”

The Vatican document is currently being examined by the leader of the Lefebvrians and the heads of the Society of Saint Pius X, which met in Albano, Rome. Fellay made his speech last Saturday, speaking in Villepreux in north-central France, in which he focused on relations between the Brotherhood and Rome.

The advice that came from the 28 representatives of the Society of Pius X, who gathered at their Italian headquarters in Albano Laziale, a suburb of Rome, was clear: “Maintain the faith it its entirety, staying faithful to the mission assigned by Monsignor Marcel Lefebvre.”
