No same-sex parent changes to passports

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it has no plans to make changes to passport application forms to reflect the increasing number of same-sex parents.

It emerged today that the Home Office in Britain is to begin offering the option of "parent one" and "parent two" alongside references to "father" and "mother" on its passport application forms.

The changes follow expression of concerns from gay rights groups and the authorities in Britain say the new forms are being updated to incorporate same-sex parents.

The new forms are expected to be introduced in the UK by the end of the year.
