African Lutheran bishop warns on HIV and rape repercussions

A South African bishop has expressed concern about reports that anger among raped women could be a factor in spreading the HIV virus, while speaking at a meeting in which regional church leaders said they are not doing enough about HIV and AIDS.

At the same meeting, women expressed deep regret at increasing reports of violence against females as a weapon of war and conflict in Africa.

"The women are saying, 'I am not going to die alone. I will teach men a lesson'," Bishop Johannes Ramashapa, executive director of Lutheran Churches in South Africa said in Nairobi, where he was attending a churches' AIDS conference.
